Suit Up!

Lately the lines between menswear and womenswear have been a bit blurred. Walking down the street you’ll notice women in tailored suits, sportswear, and sneakers, and I think it’s awesome. I don’t know much about men’s fashion, but ever since brands like Gucci, Prada, and Givenchy have incorporated more gender-neutral looks into their collections I’ve decided to make an effort to learn.

In my attempts to incorporate menswear into my wardrobe I’ve tried wearing clothes from my guy friends’ closets multiple times, and the only items that ever seemed to fit me correctly were flannels and sweatshirts, which wasn't exactly the look I was going for. After many failed attempts at borrowing my guy friends’ clothing I decided to invest in this Trouvé pantsuit from Nordstrom. It’s perfectly versatile because I can wear it with a casual t-shirt and oxfords for a day downtown or at work, or I can dress it up with a pair of heels for an interview or a nice dinner. The pieces can also be worn separately, which is another bonus! The jacket can be worn with a pair of jeans or over a dress and the pants can be worn with a low cut top and some dainty necklaces to put a feminine twist on it.

Update Your Denim

Denim is something that is always in style, and almost everyone has a pair of jeans or a denim jacket in their closet. Since almost everyone owns denim I like to find ways to make my denim unique because I like to stand out, that's where this jacket comes into play!

I was inspired to update my denim jacket when I walked into Urban Outfitters a couple of years ago and saw a denim jacket that had a bunch of unique embellishments on it. I fell completely in love with it until I found out that it was a one of a kind that one of their stylists had designed and priced at about $200. After leaving the store I realized that I could probably make a jacket similar to the one in the store for a much cheaper price, so I got my creative juices flowing.

When I got home I took my denim jacket that I bought from American Eagle for only $40 and sewed a yin yang symbol from an old t-shirt to the back and the sleeve from a flannel that I had out grown on to the collar. I also pinned some pins that I had in my room onto the front. Within a couple of hours I had my own one of a kind denim jacket and it only cost about ¼ of the price of the jacket from Urban Outfitters! I’ve had this jacket for a couple of years now, and not gonna lie I feel pretty cool when someone asks me where I bought it and I get to say that I made it myself.

Get creative with your denim! Add embellishments to your jacket, embroider something onto the leg of your jeans, have fun and make it your own!

White on White

White on white was a major theme on the spring runways this year. The runways of Thakoon, Derek Lam, Carolina Herrera, Victoria Beckham, and many others inspired me to try out an all white ensemble. White has always been a spring trend, but I especially love wearing it in the summer. It feels fresh and clean and makes you look tan - which is quite difficult to achieve when you're as pale as I am.

I added some lace and a pair of metallic brogues to my white on white outfit to give it dimension and to keep it interesting.

Socks and Sandals

Hi friends!

If you know me then you know how obsessed I am with socks. I’m rarely barefoot and I literally have an entire drawer dedicated to my crazy sock collection. Lately I’ve been looking for a pair of cute sandals that will showcase my socks since I’ll be going back home to SoCal in a month where it’s definitely too hot to wear boots with my socks - which is one of my go to looks during fall and winter time. I came across these while shopping with my mom over spring break and instantly fell in love with the 70’s vibe that they give off. Since I’m a bit self conscious about my feet I decided to throw on a pair of my favorite socks under them. I think they look super cute and I found a way to wear my new favorite sandals while still protecting my feet from the cold San Francisco air!

Day and Night

Being someone who is always on the go I find it important to be able to transform a “day outfit” into a “night outfit” without having to change into something completely new once the sun sets. If you have plans with friends after work or after a day filled with running errands and don’t have time to stop at home to put on something different you can simply change your shoes and add some sparkle to your outfit and be ready to go! Although this outfit may not be suitable for an office job, it can definitely work for someone who has a job in a creative setting, and keeping a pair of heels and a nice jacket in your car to throw on before going out is as easy as pie!

Check Mate

I bought these checked slip-on Vans a few weeks ago and I’ve been wearing them nonstop ever since! I feel like I’m in sixth grade again taking P.E. way too seriously (I was the fastest girl in my class ya’know). I'm someone who enjoys playing with patterns and colors so these shoes are a perfect addition to my wardrobe, and I think they do a pretty good job of sprucing up my outfits.

There are so many different patterns to choose from when it comes to Vans slip-ons. Choose a pair, whether it’s a simple white pair or ones with a pattern that fits your personality. I mean, what’s better than a pair of cute shoes that you can walk in all day long? I highly recommend that you invest in a pair this season!
